This is a 6 part program that takes place over 12 weeks and we will be diving into the best skills and interventions for keeping your relationships happy and healthy. You will learn and practice skills and good habits to prevent problems from spiraling and to keep the communication flowing in a positive way. I call this first Module “The Groundwork.”
I will be teaching you what I have found to be the best, most immediately useful tools for doing basic cleanup and regular happy fine-tuning on your communication. We will be meeting with other people who are invested in improving their relationships and you will learn from me and from one another.
Who is this for?
It’s for singles, couples, triads, polycules, straight people, queer people, cisgender people, trans and nonbinary people. If you’re vanilla, you’re welcome! If you’re monogamous, please join us. If you are kinky and poly, please come! You might be dreaming of the relationship you want to create and you can come to think about how to implement good skills. You may have just started a new relationship and want to learn how to take care of it. Or you may be in a relationship that has been going well for awhile, but sometimes you have challenges in communication that you want to know how to quickly repair. This is for you.
You don’t have to be in a perfect relationship, but let’s say that your relationship happy meter generally doesn’t dip below 5 on a 1-10 scale with 10 being the happiest. You certainly may bicker and have ongoing challenges or have little things that bug you in the relationship. But I want to route people who really need direct relationship interventions to couples or relationship therapy. You can be anywhere in the world since this will be happening online and it’s an educational workshop.
Who isn’t a good fit for this program?
If you and your partner(s) are currently struggling to the point that you need direct and focused time from a relationship therapist, this program won’t be enough to give you that support. If any of you are struggling with active substance abuse, domestic violence, or untreated mental health concerns, it won’t be a good fit. If you are recovering from a major breach like an affair (or you are actively having an affair), this won’t be a great fit for you. Those issues should be well-managed to get the most out of this program and for it to not cause disruption to your relationship(s).
My Why:
Why am I doing this? Because, quite honestly, helping people remove the obstacles to healthy and happy relationships and communication is the thing I love the most. It gives me life!! But even more, I love helping people learn these skills BEFORE they are in hot water. I want you to feel confident about how to nip little relationship thorns in the bud before they grow into sharp daggers that are causing you pain. I find talking about these issues to be a whole lot of fun, interesting, and it can be done with playfulness and humor. It is also incredibly normalizing to do this in a cohort with others who are striving to learn these skills. Lastly, I have invested decades in trying to reach people of all genders and orientations who are often left out of the relationship skills conversation. This has changed a bit in recent years, but working with diverse identities has taught me so much and I find I am often applying these lessons to my work with other people in relationships. I want to create a welcome space for all of your identities.
Your Why:
People spend thousands of dollars on relationship counseling, often at a pain point or crisis in their relationship. Many crises can be averted just by learning basic communication skills upfront. This is an investment in your future happiness and learning some basic rules of engagement that can build the foundation for many years. It is so much cheaper than therapy. It will be fun and engaging, and you will be able to connect with like-minded people who have the same goals and interests in investing in their relationships.
But, in addition, this course focuses on people of all genders and orientations. I have spent years working with people who experience a gender transition (or that of a partner) in a relationship and need support in understanding how that impacts them. I have worked with people who have come out as asexual while in a relationship. I also work with people who engage in consensual BDSM and have consensual power dynamics who have had a hard time finding a competent person to talk to about this. And I also have helped many people learn about stepping into ethical non-monogamy together. So in addition to helping vanilla, heterosexual, cisgender, and monogamous people, I am skilled in working with people of all genders and orientations.
